Matthew (Matt) Hill has been teaching choral music for over 20 years and is currently the choral music teacher, drama club director, and Music Department Chair at J.R. Fugett Middle School in the West Chester Area School District, where he has been for over 15 years. Matt is a graduate of Ithaca College (B.M.) and West Chester University (M.M.). Although he has taught at every level, he has loved his time working with middle school voices (and all their unique challenges!).
During his time teaching middle school, Matt has directed the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade Choruses, as well as the Fugett Chorale, Men's Chorus, and the Drama Club. Matt's ensembles have consistently achieved high ratings at competition festivals, and have a lot of fun doing so.
In addition to teaching, Matt is also an avid composer and has had his music performed by groups of varying experience levels. He was chosen to have his piece ("Song for the Disappointed") premiered by The Princeton Singers as part of the 2013 ACDA National Symposium on American Choral Music in Washington, D.C. He was also commissioned by the Singing Boys of Sioux Falls to write a piece ("Trust in the Lord") for their 30th anniversary season. In 2023, Matt’s piece “A Symphony Divine” was premiered by the West Chester Area School District Festival Choir, which combined students at all levels in a mass choir finale performance.
He resides in Delaware County, PA with his wife Kristin and two children.
Matt possesses the unique ability to inspire and motivate ALL of his students. He makes every student feel welcome, safe and encouraged to achieve and succeed in their musical studies.
